You have 'freedom of speech' just because it doesn't matter
“Terence McKenna was CIA,” argued somebody convincingly on a post
So he was himself despite being an agent, this is doubly fucktastic! Being friends with the devil while you pass the river, keep your friends close and your enemies closer: if true, he would be the smartest counterintelligence agent in history, playing the system while being the system… Or I have another take: maybe the system, for its own sake, is letting some fringe truth come out because a hermetically closed one is weaker than one that scans the whole spectrum of power pivots. That’s exactly how our so-called democracy goes on: being a ruthless piece of shit, our ‘democracy’ lets us talk senselessly here to steal our focus and energy for change, and it’s called ‘free speech’… they should call it ‘monitored speech’, free only if it doesn’t matter… try free speech in a protected network, they would freak out not knowing what you’re ‘freeing speech’ about… Terence was a CIA agent, only because it didn’t matter, or worse, it was in favour of the system.

nothing is allowed to occur within a system unless it benefits or is neutral to the architects of said system. if you are allowed to speak, it is because management does not fear speech.
The upside is when a system begins to fail management becomes incompetent. They may allow behavior and phenomena that harms them, and thru either retardation or hubris or both they convince themselves they are unaffected. Loss of legitimacy is the end for any system, and inability to to parse threat often creates loss of legitimacy
